A Word From Pastor Dennis– September 6, 2020

I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. (Philippians 3:8)

What We Should Know

Light always comes at the expense of that which produces it. An unlit candle does not shine, for burning must come before the light. We too can be of little use to others without a cost to ourselves.

When I think of a true light in the world, I think of Joni Ericson Tada who broke her neck at the age of seventeen in a diving accident. She thought her light was snuffed out.  Paralyzed from the neck down, she felt her life and her value to others was gone. Yet, she didn’t quit. Her faith kicked in and the result was an amazing ministry known as “Joni and Friends” which has provided free wheelchairs to multitudes of people around the world for decades and continues to prosper today. When asked if she could have a miracle to return the use of her limbs, she declined because her strength came at the expense of her arms and legs.

The success of Joni’s ministry (her light) was not re-ignited over night. Her faith journey matured over the years as she was patient and submissive and committed to help others who were paralyzed.

We should know that, with patience, submissiveness and commitment, God’s will shall be the light in our lives. It’s not an easy road, especially in this tumultuous world of confusion and conflict. Yet, all of that is a loss because we know Jesus Christ is Lord.
