A Word From Pastor Dennis– September 20, 2020
Psalm 133
How good and pleasant it is
When God’s people live together in unity!
It is like precious oil poured on the head
Running down on the beard,
Running down on Aaron’s beard,
down on the collar of his robe.
It is as if the dew of Hermon
Were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows His blessing,
even life forevermore.
What We Should Know
Have you ever been around someone who is diametrically opposed to everything you believe in? Have you ever been around someone who would rather argue than listen? Have you ever been around someone who is always right all the time? I have and it’s very stressing to say the least.
I did some debating in college and, when you debate there, you draw your subject matter out of a hat which may or may not agree with your opinions. Either way, you have to support it and argue it effectively. I learned more from listening to and opening my mind to the other side than I ever did by wearing “blinders” and just shutting my opponent out.
Each of us is unique in our own way. That’s the way God made us. We have our own opinions and viewpoints. We are still brothers and sisters in Christ; yet we are different……we are unique individuals. We have different needs and different tastes and yet we are still created in His image. Yet, here we are today….our country is divided, our Church is divided and we are in conflict because we have let the things of this world have priority of the Good News of Jesus Christ.
In Psalm 133, David gives us reason to pause and reflect on what this world would be like if we all decided to follow John Wesley’s suggestion that it is OK to disagree agreeably and love our neighbors as ourselves. We should know our priorities in life. If we do, then we can appreciate David’s precious words.
