A Message from Pastor Dennis – Weekly Devotional –July 5
You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in You.
Isaiah 26:3
Isaiah expresses his song of praise to God in this passage. What he is saying is that the more you turn your thoughts to God, the more you will enjoy His perfect peace. My undergraduate degree is in Psychology with an emphasis in counseling. As I further pursued that course of study in seminary and the inner-workings of the mind, I learned that the focus of our mind controls our attitudes, our direction and our faith.
We can train our mind to turn from other interests to God. It takes repetitive practice and persistence, but it works. In college, I had lab classes with animals. I taught rats to do things and eat and drink things they normally did not like….not so easy with people, but it works.
Turning our thoughts to God insures our ultimate trust in God and that’s a great beginning. Then, through persistence, we seek His Will, we read His Word and displace our personal opinions with the truth. There is a lot of conflict out there…..let’s strive not to let it prevail.
