A Word from Pastor Stephen – May 7, 2020
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20 ESV)
I know for some people during this extended suspension of in person worship their walk with Jesus has become a bit unsteady. It is hard to be a Christian in isolation. Being a Christian by its very nature means community. It means gathering together as believers. It means enjoying fellowship with brothers and sisters.
Yet here we are in isolation from each other. It can make our faith seem dry and distant and isolated. It may be hard to pray right now. It might be difficult to pick up your Bible and read. You don’t have the strength to read that devotion. Unfortunately, this isolation makes it very easy to focus on ourselves.
What Paul reminds us to do is to take the focus off of ourselves and put it on Jesus. “It is no longer I who live, but Christ how lives in me.” It is much easier to energize your faith and your walk with Jesus when your Lord and Savior is at the center. If you remember that Jesus loves you and gave himself for you, then you should live with joy in your heart at all times. Amen.
