A Word from Pastor Stephen – May 25, 2020
“As for me, this is my covenant with them,” says the Lord. “My Spirit, who is on you, will not depart from you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will always be on your lips, on the lips of your children and on the lips of their descendants—from this time on and forever,” says the Lord. (Isaiah 59:21 NIV)
In chapter 59 of Isaiah the author goes into great detail about the sins of the people. Among other things he lists are rebellion, treachery, injustice, lying, violence, evil deeds and on and on the list goes. Yet, the people recognize their sin and cry out in confession to God for redemption. “For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us. Our offenses are ever with us and we acknowledge our iniquities.” (vs. 12)
Once again the eternal
patience of God is revealed. The heart of
God is always ready to embrace us and forgive us.
“The Lord says to his people, ‘I will come to Jerusalem to defend you and
to save all of you that turn from your sins.’” (vs. 20)
Today our world seems to face so many overwhelming challenges. The pandemic is just one thing among many. What can we do? How do we begin living for God and His kingdom? What should give us great comfort and strength is that God continually renews his covenant with us. We don’t have to do the heavy lifting. No matter what hardships or obstacles we face the Spirit of God is on us. God will not depart from us. We have a constant, loving and faithful companion on our journey. Amen.
