A Word from Pastor Stephen – May 22, 2020
“One thing have I asked of
the Lord, that will I seek after;
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life,
to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to inquire in his temple.” (Psalm 27:4 ESV)
If you won the lottery and had more money than you could ever spend, what would you desire more than anything else? (Now as good Methodists I hope none of you are playing the lottery. I am just using it as an illustration.) Basically, if you wished for one thing above all else, what would it be?
David tells us what that one thing would be for him. The one desire David asked the Lord to grant him was to “dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life.” All David wants to do is to be with God. Look at God and admire Him. David wants “to inquire in his temple”. This means David wants to seek out, search for, strive for and experience God.
David is not just asking for this, but that he will also “seek after” it. If you were to look deep into your heart today, would you be able to ask for the same thing as David? We are all pursuing something. We all have priorities in our life. Something gets you out of bed in the morning and sends you out into the world. Is it to seek after Jesus and experience the fullness of the love Jesus has for you? Examine your heart today. Amen.
