A Word from Pastor Stephen – May 21, 2020
“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10 RSV)
Did you know that God created you to do good things? Here in Ephesians Paul says that we are His workmanship, which means that God created us. Paul makes it clear that we were created for a purpose. We have something God wants us to do. As Christian people who have committed ourselves to following Jesus, it is our desire to walk in His footsteps and be His hand and feet and voice in this world. Yet, too often, we begin to think that we are responsible for doing these good works, or we begin to take credit for them and we can let arrogance and self-righteousness creep in.
The Apostle Paul makes it abundantly clear that we cannot take credit for anything good we do. That is a hard lesson for us to learn. All the good works we do were prepared beforehand, “that we should walk in them.” What this means for us is that our only response to following Jesus is simple obedience. Are we willing to walk into what God has prepared for us?
For some of us these good works may be big and grand and people will notice us. For others, these good works will be quiet and unassuming, but just as important for the building up the Kingdom of God. God has a mission for each one of us. We are missionaries everywhere we go. All we need to do is to be alert and ready to walk into the things God wants us to do for Him. Amen.
